It was a perfectly ordinary afternoon on Chestnut Avenue. Jasmine was walking along the road, swinging her school bag and sucking a lollipop. As she passed the corner shop, she distinctly heard a creaking sound, but assumed it was a branch of one of the chestnut trees rubbing against another branch. But then the sound was repeated, only louder this time. Some instinct made her look down. A crack was opening in the pavement beneath her feet. She stepped back. The crack grew wider. There was a lurid glow coming from the depths of the crack. And things started coming out of the depths.

They had form but it was indistict. It was difficult to tell where one ended and the other began.
Jasmine froze, unable to move. She wanted to scream but she couldn't. The creatures or whatever these things were, move slowly around her and then began moving up her body.
She felt cold. It was though the warmth had run off and hid. She found it harder and harded to concentrate on the world around her. The things appeared to be drainer her thoughts.
Slowly darkness came upon her.

Jasmine slowly opened her eyes. The light was bright and she found it difficult to make out her surroundings. She could hear voices.
As the fog clear she realised she was lying in a hospital bed.
"Hello sweetie", came the familiar voice of her mother, "I'm so glad your awake, we were so worried!"
"What happened?", Jasmine asked, still feeling a bit groggy.
"You were found lying in the middle of the road, unconscious"
